Visit Bob's Donut Factory

Do you know how donuts are made?  I mean those special donuts we have come to know and love from Superior Threads.  I know I have a few either in my applique bag and next to my favorite chair.

How would you like to go on a tour and see where they wind and make the bobbins.  I don't know about you, but I love factory tours and learning how things are made.  We are in for a real treat in January when we tour Superior Threads Home office and warehouse.  You can get an advance look here by watching this video of Alex Anderson when she visited Superior Threads in June 2013 and got the grand tour.  This is the first of a series of videos Alex will be showing.

We have scheduled several times to see the warehouse in January during our Quilt St. George 2014 Retreat

WATCH THE VIDEO NOW as Alex Anderson takes a tour of "Bob's Donut Factory".

The Braided Irish Chain

We are so excited to have Melissa Corry coming to teach for us at Quilt St. George this year.  Her version of the Braided Irish chain is beautiful and fun to make.

The Braided Irish Chain adds beautiful flair to a traditional quilt.  With 6 size options there is sure to be a size that fits your needs.   Although it looks complex, the Braided Irish Chain is rather simple when broken down making it perfect for the beginner and expert alike.  So get ready for some strip piecing, chain stitching, and a great time in this class.

Picture Piecing by our National Teacher Cynthia England

No - It's not traditional Applique nor is it paper piecing.

In these videos Cynthia actually brings you into her studio to see her techniques first hand.  Picture piecing is a new technique that Cynthia has had much success with and will be coming to share this technique with us.

I have watched these twice now and even though I love applique, I am excited to try her new technique.  In this new YouTube video Cynthia shares her methods and techniques which are unique.  It takes you through the steps of fabric selection, cutting, ironing and stitching.  The demonstration is in 2 parts.  Part  1 is above and Part 2 is below.  The ice cream block she is constructing is a free pattern on her website.
